My name is Domenic Donato and my son to the left of me in the above photo is Lenny. I emigrated from Italy and settled in El Cajon in 1961. I had an engineering/ architectural background in Calabria, Italy. I soon became discouraged waiting for U.S. Citizenship, which was necessary for the particular employment opportunity that I desired in that field.

My wife's father invited me into the restaurant business. I went to work for my father in-law and his partners in a restaurant they had opened on Second Street.

In 1966, I opened my own restaurant in Clairemont. As young boys, Lenny and Mario, my sons, would watch the day to day running of the family restaurant and at an early age were figuring out how a good restaurant should be run. Since then, we have opened "Mama Rosa's" in Ramona and El Cajon, which are now operated by family members.

Lenny and Mario enjoyed the restaurant business ever since they were very young. They also worked in the corporate restaurant world, but decided to settle into the family business. Lenny runs "Mangia Bene Ristorante" and Mario runs "Mario's Ristorante" in Lakeside.
